At Home Teeth Whitening Made Easy

The first and last time I whitened my teeth was eight years ago.  I had braces on for a year and a half and wanted to get rid of the stains and other yuck that gets on your teeth from having braces permanently on them for that long.  I was SO excited to do this because I would be brightening up my smile and would be proud to show off my new straight teeth.  As soon as I left the orthodontist I went straight to my local store and picked up some white-strips - the only whitening process I really knew of at the time that would allow you to whiten your teeth at home and for a reasonable price.

In all honesty I can't remember the immediate results, but I do remember them not lasting long-term and finding the whole white-strip process to be a bit of a pain.  I can still recall finding the little clear wrappers on my sink (because I couldn't see them when I dropped them), or feeling one under my foot because it slipped off the sink and then was invisible on the floor. I'm not saying this is a reason not to get white strips and may not be a huge turn off to some, but as a neat nick it really bothered me and to this day is a very vivid memory.  I also didn't find the strips to cover all of my teeth - if anyone has ever done them you know the feeling of trying to wrap the strips around your teeth and then use your finger nails to try to push the strips into the cracks of your teeth and really secure them. As a big talker I also didn't like the inability to speak for so many minutes because I had these awkward strips on my teeth.

So for the last 6 or so years I have wanted to try the whitening process again, but using a different method.  I looked into doing it at my dentist's office, but the price of that was outrageous and not something I can afford right now as a college student. Also, as a student taking a full load every semester while also owning a business, running a blog, and interning I haven't found the time to go to Target or Wal-Mart, check out the different brands, research them, then buy the whitening program and find the time in my insane schedule to do it.

However, Smile Brilliant reached out to me a few months ago and asked me if I would be interested in collaborating with them.  Before agreeing I did my research and they had great reviews from many different outlets, so I figured I would try it out and report back to you guys on how it went!  What I liked the most about Smile Brilliant, while doing my research, was how easy the whole process seemed and how little effort I had to put into getting the whole whitening kit.

After agreeing to the partnership I soon received my whitening kit, which came with desensitizing gel, dental whitening gel, small tubs of a catalyst and base pastes for making your custom dental impressions, and impression trays. The process couldn't have been easier - I mixed together the two different pastes, set them into the impression tray, then bit down and within minutes had custom dental impressions made all from the comfort of my kitchen table! I then put the impressions in a pre-paid mailing envelope, put the envelope in my mailbox, and waited patiently for my custom whitening trays to eventually arrive.

Upon arrival of the whitening trays I got right into the whitening process. Since I'm always on the go Smilebrilliant's whitening process was so perfect for me. I could pop my custom whitening trays in and go about my daily life with them in for 1-3 hours at a time. I'd blog, edit photos, go to the beach, sit by the pool, do summer classes online, etc. all while knowing my smile was getting whiter - how cool is that!? No one could even tell that they were in - unless they would offer me food or drink and I'd have to say I have whitening trays in!  And the best part is, I could see results immediately and after completing the whole process I'm so happy with how well the whitening system worked.  My smile is brighter, my teeth are whiter, and it didn't intrude on my daily life, which I think is the most important part.

Spring Essentials

I don't know about you, but I am beyond ready for spring. We've been experiencing an in-between stage here in New England and I'm ready for it to go full into spring and then summer.  With the changing of seasons I always love and get excited to update my wardrobe with some new and improved favorites.  I put together what I think should be spring essentials for anyone's wardrobe. What are you favorite pieces for spring?

Oxford Shoes and Classic Blues

I love finding a unique brand that makes high quality clothes, has a good mission, and isn't totally out of my price range.  Last year I discovered the brand Everlane while searching for stylish dresses to wear to my internship. I ended up buying a black dress from Everlane that was so comfortable, professional looking, and great for wearing outside of work too.  Since then my love for the brand has only grown with the new products they have come out with, their continued commitment to transparency, and their dedication to making the world a better place through their mission and various campaigns.

adore the oxford shoes I'm wearing in this post and am so excited to incorporate them into my outfits. I'm wearing them in blush, but I also really like the cognac color as well. They're 100% Italian leather and have a nice short heel that makes them comfortable and classy. They're beautiful in pictures, but even more impressive in person. I do recommend sizing up as they run a bit narrow!

I am also looking forward to adding this shirt into my outfit rotation. I love the split neck detail and also the drop tail hem, which makes the shirt a bit longer in the back.  I love a classic blue blouse and this is the perfect take on it.

Warm Winter Weather Style

I hope you're enjoying the long weekend! We had beautiful weather here in Massachusetts this weekend and I certainly took advantage of it - it was 60 degrees on Sunday! It was the perfect weekend to throw on a light coat or blazer with jeans and be comfortable walking around the city as I did on Saturday.

I was really excited to wear my new Julie Brown top and pair it with my Julie Brown vegan leather envelope clutch.  I had initially thought that the turquoise clutch was the perfect way to brighten up a dead of winter outfit, but it ended up feeling like a spring weekend so the color was even more fitting! How cute is the little tassel on the clutch?

Julie Brown Designs has so many great tops that are comfortable, really well-made, and stylish. I love the double layer style in the Cara top and I'm really excited to pair it with white jeans for a clean look in the summer.  I've linked some of my other favorite Julie Brown tops below.
