Happy World Oceans Day!

With today being World Oceans Day we thought it would be appropriate to announce an exciting message from Sand and Coral!

We will be donating 10% from each sale of our Pink Anchor Needlepoint Key Fob to Project 0.

Project 0 is "a new generation focused on fixing the world's largest and most solvable problem - the ocean."  It is a global movement, which is supported by renowned scientists, business leaders, celebrities, ocean experts, and individuals all working together to celebrate and restore the ocean.

As someone who grew up spending summers on Cape Cod, went to "the school by the sea", and has lived on the coast my entire life I have a major connection to the ocean and want to do everything in my power to protect it and improve its current state.  I first learned of the harm facing our ocean in my aquaculture class at Tabor Academy and could not believe the degree of danger facing marine species and the habitats in which they live. For example whales, dolphins, manatees, dugongs, salmon, seabirds, sea turtles, and sharks, to name a few, are all listed on the endangered species list. Similarly, many other marine species are decreasing at an unsustainable rate and unfortunately most of this is a direct result of human interference. Activities like wetland dredging, agricultural development, waste pollution, and chemical runoff are destroying habitats where marine life live.

Just to put things in perspective a report from the World Economic Forum and Ellen MacArthur foundation showed that by 2050, there could be more plastic (by weight) than fish in the planet's oceans.

However, it's not all grave news.  We can all work together around the world to improve the state of the ocean.  Here are a few simple tips from Project 0 that are easy to do in your everyday life:

Choose Sea Food Wisely
Eliminate Single-Use Plastic
Watch What You Flush
